I saw this cute idea in 100 Ideas Under $100 and knew I had to make one for my daughter. It was quick and easy; it took longer to go buy the materials than it did to finish the project.
I had a piece of MDF cut at the home improvement store and used spray adhesive to attach the fabric and ribbon. Next I pre-drilled and screwed on the drawer pulls and knobs taking into consideration the jewelry that would hang on the board. You could easily use a nice wallpaper instead of fabric. Either way, just be careful when you drill through it—the drill can cause tears if you don’t go slowly.
To hang it, I used the French cleat method—a board ripped on a 45-degree angle with one side mounted to the wall and the other to the back of the board. The lower piece is mounted to the wall with the angle sloping downward and toward the wall. The top piece is mounted to the back of the board with the angle sloping up and toward the board. The angles will then fit snugly together with no need to drill through the face of the project to hang it.
The result is nicely organized jewelry instead of earrings poking in my feet every time I walk into her room. Hooray!

There’s just something wonderful about a weekend with no real commitments or responsibilities. I toiled over sweet, heart-shaped shortbread cookies dipped in red candy melts and sprinkles for my girls. I tried my hand at some cake pops as seen on Bakerella.

They turned out OK, but I quickly discovered a few things I could have done to make them better. It was an all-day project so I don’t think I’ll be making them again soon. My photo doesn’t do them justice, but the ones on the Bakerella site are so cute!
I recently took an idea from do it yourself magazine and made a beautiful wall-mount jewelry organizer for my oldest daughter, Haley. It’s almost ready to be hung. Once it’s done I’ll snap a photo and post it here. Now I’m working on a large wall board for Hanna, my younger daughter. It has corkboards so far. It will have some magnet strips and other fun stuff (yet to be determined) for her room-organizing pleasure. OK, for my room-organizing pleasure. Pictures of it to come, too.
I’m working through the route this blog will take in the future so posts may be somewhat sporadic as I work through the planning stages. I hope you’ll bear with me. Great things are on the horizon….
