I saw this cute idea in 100 Ideas Under $100 and knew I had to make one for my daughter. It was quick and easy; it took longer to go buy the materials than it did to finish the project.
I had a piece of MDF cut at the home improvement store and used spray adhesive to attach the fabric and ribbon. Next I pre-drilled and screwed on the drawer pulls and knobs taking into consideration the jewelry that would hang on the board. You could easily use a nice wallpaper instead of fabric. Either way, just be careful when you drill through it—the drill can cause tears if you don’t go slowly.
To hang it, I used the French cleat method—a board ripped on a 45-degree angle with one side mounted to the wall and the other to the back of the board. The lower piece is mounted to the wall with the angle sloping downward and toward the wall. The top piece is mounted to the back of the board with the angle sloping up and toward the board. The angles will then fit snugly together with no need to drill through the face of the project to hang it.
The result is nicely organized jewelry instead of earrings poking in my feet every time I walk into her room. Hooray!
